Aleckz Rizo

Alecks RIZO is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Los Angeles Ca. Her work spans painting, photography, barbering, and set design. Rooted in queer and Latine perspectives, Alecks’ creations often center Mexican identity, blending cultural storytelling with bold visual impact.

Since their first solo show at Artey Gallery in downtown Los Angeles in 2018, their art has been featured in multiple LA galleries, on three collaborative murals along Melrose Blvd, as well as murals in Hawaii and San Diego.

Beyond the canvas, RIZO has designed and built sets for The Lucys music video, been spotlighted by San Diego FC for her barbering, judged barber competitions, worked internationally, and even cut hair for the Banksy art show.

This mural is a playful take on power and resilience, reimagined through a cartoon-like figure wearing a crown and a striped poncho. The piece blends humor with cultural symbolism — a reminder that strength can be both soft and bold, carrying echoes of Mexican identity and street art energy.

This collection is rooted in the vibrancy of Mexican textiles, pulling inspiration from the patterns of traditional serapes. Each canvas reimagines these designs with bold colors and modern framing, reflecting both heritage and contemporary Latine identity. By repeating and reshaping these patterns, I honor where I come from while also creating something distinctly my own.

For me, barbering is as much about storytelling as painting. Every cut is a canvas, and here the fiery red tones and carved patterns transform hair into living art. It’s another way I celebrate identity and individuality — blending craft, culture, and personal expression in a way that moves beyond the gallery wall.

This collaborative mural along Melrose Blvd carries the layered spirit of Los Angeles. Each letter of “Melrose” becomes its own canvas — blending portraits, street graphics, and serape-inspired textures. For me, it represents LA’s diversity: a patchwork of voices, cultures, and styles that collide to make the city unforgettable.
